URGENT CALL to ACTION!

On Monday, November 30, at 9:30am, the Oakland County Commission General Government committee will meet and likely vote on countywide transit!!

(Then on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 at 7PM, the full Board of Commissioners will meet.)

They will be voting on "All-In" transit funding, allowing county residents to:
- VOTE ON SMART millages all together and
- SHARE in the benefits of transit together!

Right now, the vote is too close to call!!

Please take 10 minutes to help make it happen!
  • Please urge these three swing commissioners to support it!
    • Commissioner Jeff Potter (R-South Lyon / Walled Lake / Wixom)
      • Call 248-858-0100, 248-437-7597, or email PotterJ@OakGov.com
    • Commissioner Kim Capello (R-Novi / Northville)
      • Call 248-858-0100, 248-380-5159, or email Kim@KTCapelloLaw.com
    • Commissioner Shelly Goodman Taub (R-Bloomfield Hills / West Bloomfield / Orchard Lake)
      • Call 248-858-0100, 248-858-8870(h), 248-420-8870(c) or email ShelleyTaub@comcast.net
  • Urge County Exec. Brooks Patterson to support regional transit (and not veto this)!
    • Call 248-858-0480
  • Also thank Commissioner Schwartz and all the other Democrats for their support!

A few useful talking points on SMART bus service is vital to Oakland County:
  • Transit ensures that senior citizens, teens, people with disabilities, and everyone else in our community can go to work, school, church, shopping, doctor visits, etc.
    • 70% of bus riders use SMART to go to work; 20% to go to school.
  • Transit helps families save thousands of dollars on cars, gas, parking, and insurance.
  • Transit gives businesses a broader and more reliable workforce and more customers.
But half of Oakland County is not part of SMART and is missing many of these benefits!

Currently individual Oakland cities/townships can create gaping holes in the transit system by opting out of SMART, forcing the buses out of their communities and leaving their residents without choices.

Thanks, and remember:
YOUR CALL can make the difference!!
