TRU Member Meeting about Arterial Rapid Transit
The new official Regional Transit Plan calls for seven lines of “Arterial Rapid Transit” or ART, to be built throughout the region by 2012. Have you wondered:
What is ART and how is it different?
How will it tie in with the existing bus network?
How will it be transitioned into light rail or other rapid transit?
Come to TRU’s member meeting to learn all this and more from John Swatosh, Deputy Director of RTCC. Come get in on the ground floor of this important transit advancement! We need your input! The meeting will be Monday, March 30, at 6:30pm, mezzanine level of Guardian Building, 500 Griswold, Downtown Detroit (Griswold and Congress).

Over the next month, TRU will be hosting five meetings throughout the region to connect the transit campaign to people within their community. These events will launch new local transit teams to get people more actively involved in the fight for improved transit.
We know there are a lot of people throughout the region who want better transit and are willing to help make it happen. Only a few of our activist meetings have been outside Detroit, thus making it challenging for some people to get involved.
Critical transit decisions will be made in the next few weeks and months at the local, regional, state and federal levels, especially threats to transit funding and opportunities for big change in policy. So we need all hands on deck!

TRU fall meeting - long range transportation funding
Monday, September 21, 2009 at 6:30pm
Northwest Activity Center - 18100 Meyers in Detroit
Recent bus funding troubles have made it crystal clear that greater Detroit will never have the quality transit system we need without more funding and a dedicated funding source!
So this fall's member meeting is going to focus on the issue of long-term funding for transit and transportation:
- SEMCOG Transportation Director Carmine Palombo will present their proposed transportation plan for the next 25 years and the funding troubles transportation will be facing;
- TRU staff will discuss efforts to raise state transportation funding and local funding options;
- And we'll all discuss ways to ensure that public transit raises the money we need for a high quality regional transit system for Detroit's future!
If you care about public transit, you won't want to miss this important event!
Note - due to Guardian Building construction, our meeting will be at a new location! The NW Activity Center is in northwest Detroit, at the corner of Meyers and Curtis, between 6 and 7 Mile Roads and between the Lodge and Wyoming. The Dexter bus (#16) goes right there and several others buses travel nearby. There is also a fenced parking lot behind the building.

Blueprint America screening and discussion
Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 6:00pm
Wayne State University Law School Auditorium, 471 West Palmer, Detroit
Beyond the Motor City is a PBS documentary directed by acclaimed filmmaker Aaron Woolf (King Corn) and produced as part of BLUEPRINT AMERICA that shines a spotlight on one of our country’s most critical issues: America’s decaying and neglected infrastructure.
Beyond the Motor City examines how Detroit, a grim symbol of America’s diminishing status in the world, may come to represent the future of transportation and progress in this country. The film explores Detroit’s historic investments in infrastructure—from early 19th-century canals to the urban freeways that gave The Motor City its name and made America’s transportation system the envy of the world. But it also reveals that over the last 30 years, much of the world has left Detroit—and America—behind, choosing faster, cleaner, more modern transportation.
Join us at the Wayne State University Law School Auditorium for a partial screening and discussion of Beyond the Motor City, with Director Aaron Woolf and local transit leaders.
Reception and Networking at 6:00 pm
Screening (highlights) at 6:30 pm
Panel Discussion at 7:00 pm
