Like Detroit, Dallas is a sprawled region built on a car-scale.
Yet the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) system's new light rail
system, opened in 1997, has been extremely popular, exceeding all
ridership projections.
Office property values near stations have grown at double the rate of properties far from stations, while residential property values near stations have an advantage of 40% compared to properties far from stations. DART has brought great economic benefits to the region, boosting the economy by $3.7 billion and creating over 30,000 jobs in just four years.
Enlarge Detailed Map The Mockingbird Station is a vibrant highlight on the Dallas transit line. The new ten-acre transit-oriented village features 200 loft apartments, more than 90 shops and restaurants, a cinema, and office space, all linked to an 8-minute commute to downtown on the new train.
