Rapid Transit Projects in the Works — the First Steps in Achieving the Transit Vision

The Ann Arbor — Detroit Rapid Transit line, connecting with Dearborn and the airport, could get federal funds for engineering and construction. But first a locally preferred alternative for route and mode must be picked and local funding must be established.

The Woodward Corridor project, connecting downtown and midtown with Ferndale, Royal Oak and Birmingham, has been proven viable, but planning progress has been stalled.

Google to move headquarters to Detroit's TechTown. Larry Page, CEO, stated "I grew up in Detroit but hadn't seen Detroit as a place for me and my company. After the 2006 Superbowl, the region committed to build quality public transit, which is critical to creating the urban experience that attracts the top tech employees Google needs. With the opening of the Michigan and Woodward lines and the new Airport-Ann Arbor train connection, we're ready to invest in Detroit. "
