The SMART Board of Directors voted today to join DDOT in eliminating transfer fees. Starting May 1, a basic bus fare will be good for 4 hours of unlimited rides on either DDOT or SMART in any direction.
The fare change will also lower student fares to 50-cents, institute rolling 31-day passes, and more, all in alignment with DDOT, creating a more seamless regional bus riding experience.
This vote follows several months of analysis of the anticipated impact and public input opportunities, at which nearly all of the feedback was positive.
While the change may cost SMART up to $600,000 a year in passenger revenue, SMART leadership agreed that it was an appropriate investment in improving the passenger experience.
