TRU’s Transportation Civic Academy is returning for a second season this fall!
The Academy is a ten-week course on transportation politics and policy, running from September into November, with a focus on the local landscape in Michigan and metro Detroit. Participants will learn the history of transportation in our region, who makes the decisions when it comes to how we get around, and how we can advocate for a more just and sustainable transportation future.
Half the course sessions will take place in-person, while the other half will be conducted via Zoom. Last year, we featured speakers from local and national groups ranging from Transportation for America to the Detroit Greenways Coalition.
“All of the sessions were highly informative, particularly as someone who is both new to and not formally engaged in transportation and mobility issues,” wrote one of the first season’s participants.
“I really thought it was wonderful, and I’m usually pretty critical,” said another.
We know the course is a significant time commitment, so we’re also offering a stipend of $300 to participants on request. You can register using the link below, and please reach out to Za’Nyia Kelly (zkelly [at] detroittransit.org) with any questions you may have!
