TRU is hiring through the Michigan Healthy Climate (MHC) Fellows program! We have one position open who will help us conduct outreach throughout the state on clean mobility and transit. Help educate on how transit impacts local communities, meet with groups throughout the state, and join us in June on a Round-the-Mitten Transit Tour. If you’re a self-starter, detailed person who is passionate about transit and healthy climate issues statewide, you’d be great for this role!

Salary: $45k/yr

Time Commitment: 40 hours/week, January through December 2026.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach to organizations, businesses, and institutions throughout Michigan to educate them about the importance of clean mobility, learn how it impacts their communities, and invite them to get involved in expanding clean mobility options

  • Arrange meetings and events for groups throughout Michigan to learn about and make plans to improve clean mobility infrastructure throughout Michigan

  • Interview organizational leaders and other individuals to learn how transportation issues impact them and their communities, then write up and share these stories online and through social and news media
  • Plan a Round-the-Mitten Transit Tour demonstrating and educating about transit services that exist now and how lives and communities would be improved with more clean mobility investments (Specific time TBD, but travel in June across Michigan, paid for by TRU).
  • Empower the community to access climate resources by planning meetings, educational programs, and/or other activities to consistently share information.
  • Participate in MHC Fellows development shared learning and collaboration activities including four MHC Fellow in-person convenings and, MHC Fellows monthly virtual trainings (will be provided by MHC program staff).
  • Fellows will host a community input session with their host site to collect community feedback and advance the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.

Location: Hybrid, out of our office at TechTown in Detroit (440 Burroughs St, Detroit, MI 48202). In-person 1 day, remote 4 days a week.

Hours: Monday-Friday 9 am – 4 pm, plus some evening and weekend hours for community events
