The Michigan House of Representatives passed Complete Streets legislation with strong, bi-partisan support! H.B. 6151 passed with a vote of 85 – 21, and H.B. 6152 with a vote of 84-22.
As the National Complete Streets Coalition lays out:
"Instituting a complete streets policy ensures that transportation planners and engineers consistently design and operate the entire roadway with all users in mind – including bicyclists, public transportation vehicles and riders, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities."
H.B. 6151 aims at just that:
""Complete streets" means roadways planned, designed, and constructed to provide appropriate access to all legal users in a manner that promotes safe and efficient movement of people and goods whether by car, truck, transit, assistive device, foot, or bicycle."
So, we join all the Michigan Complete Streets Coalition members in taking a moment to celebrate this hurdle being successfully leapt and, next, it’s on to the Senate Transportation Committee.
