A big thank you to everyone who came out to City Council meetings and called your City Council members regarding the fare policy.
DDOT wants a new bus fare ordinance, including the authority to raise regional monthly bus passes up to $69.50, the right to raise the price of any other pass, a loosely defined $2 "premium service," and numerous other changes.
Thanks to your calls and the tireless work of TRU’s bus advocate Patty Fedewa, City Council said no, at least for now.
DDOT plans to come back with an alternate proposal, so stay tuned!
As reported by WWJ radio: City Council Says “No” To Rise In Bus Pass Fare
"Detroit City Council Tuesday said “no” to a D-DOT plan to raise the cost of a bus pass to nearly $70. Council members complained that the ordinance appeared to take over its authority over bus fare increases in the future.
Transportation Riders United (TRU) Board Member Pattie Fedewa also thinks the ordinance has a lot of hidden issues. . . .
D-DOT is promising to work with Council and TRU on the ordinance."
