TRU primarily focuses on local issues, but we’re impacted by what happens in Lansing and Washington DC too. Which is why we need your help today!

The US House of Representatives has proposed a transportation that would devastate public transit here and throughout the country! Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood calls it “the worst transportation bill I’ve ever seen during 35 years of public service.” The bill:
- Eliminates dedicated funding for transit, jeopardizing public transit investments everywhere
- Slashes funding for Amtrak by 25%
- Guts our nation’s landmark environmental laws
With the House planning to vote on this bill any day now, we need to send a message loud and clear that the House must scrap this bad bill and start over.
We’re joining with other groups today for a national day of calls to defeat this horrible bill. Take a moment and call to your representatives! Follow the link or call the capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, ask to speak to your rep and tell them:
"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I live in [CITY]. I’m calling to ask Representative [NAME] to vote "NO" on HR 7, the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act which would eliminate dedicated funding for public transit! We desperately need an updated federal transportation bill, but HR 7 is not it. Thank you."
While calls are most effective, you can also send an email your representative with a few quick clicks.
