Our co-founder, Karen Kendrick-Hands, figures that we need to have a million conversations to build support for transit in southeast Michigan. (While I may feel some days like I’ve done that personally) it’s going to take a lot of outreach by a lot of people to make that happen.
We are planning some exciting community outreach this summer, with the help of four of our fabulous interns. We’ll be at many community festivals including:
- Detroit River Days (June 22-24 on Detroit’s RiverWalk)
- The Rochester Green Living festival (also June 22-24)
- Arts, Beats, & Eats (Aug 31 – Sept 3 in Royal Oak)
- And maybe a festival near you!
We’ll be talking with your friends and neighbors, mobilizing their support for the RTA, getting input on a Transit Bill of Rights, and more. Often we’ll set up a table with lots of hand-outs, display posters, and more – like our Board President Kelly Logan did at the Michigan Summit a few weeks ago (image). Other times, we’ll simply walk around with clipboards and flyers.
Is there an event we shouldn’t miss? Email us with all the details and we’ll see if we can make it.
And we’ll be looking for lots of people to volunteer to make all of these events a great success. Stay tuned for your opportunity to come talk transit.
