What
TRU is looking for people who are interested in making a real difference. Birddogging is when activists show up at a candidate’s public events and press them on the record with pointed questions about a specific issue, so their answers are captured on video and can be tracked over time. This holds politicians accountable and helps them see the public’s interest in making meaningful change.
Roles include:
1. Researcher: Looks up events for us to attend and uploads events to the database.
2. Questioner: Asks the questions and stays calm.
3. Recorders: Primary recorders capture the politician’s face and response secondary recorders record a wide shot or questioner’s angle.
Stipends available on a first come first serve basis!
Who
Anyone can join the team! This is not limited to constituents of the candidates, anyone in Michigan is welcome. Our focus is on gubernatorial candidates and state-level candidates who will be running in the November election (Senate and House of Representatives).
When
This project will be ongoing until November 1, 2026. TRU is offering trainings to help you feel confident when attending any event where candidates will be present.

August 18th In person at TechTown (440 Burroughs St, Detroit MI, 48202) form 5:30-7:30pm (food provided)
September 2nd Hybrid at TechTown and on Zoom 6:30pm-8:30pm (food provided)
