TRU is looking for dynamic change-makers from across our region to apply to join our Board of Directors.
Our Board of Directors guides TRU’s work and ensures we have the capacity to succeed. Board members are critical ambassadors to the community, help expand TRU’s network, and ensure we follow the highest ethical standards.
To continue our commitment to representing the rich diversity of the Detroit region, while developing the relationships and resources we need, we’re intentionally seeking applications based on the following backgrounds:
- Skills
- Organizational development and nonprofit capacity building
- Fundraising and sponsorships (i.e. sales, real estate, business community)
- Accounting and finance
- Media and marketing
- Network & Affiliations
- Business / corporate community
- Civic / community leaders
- Geographic and Demographic Needs
- Transit riders (by need or by choice)
- Individuals from an African Americans / Latino / Middle Eastern background
- Residents of Macomb County
- Older People or people with disabilities

- Complete an application before December 15th. Apply online.
From There:
- TRU’s Board Development team evaluates Board candidates in comparison to the skills and connections we need, sometimes meeting with candidates where we have additional questions, then makes recommendations to the full Board of Directors, which makes a recommendation to the full membership.
- The membership votes to approve the board slate at our Annual meeting in late January.
- New board members receive an orientation and begin serving in February.
