DDOT has announced their most recent round of bus service elimination, which will go into effect June 26. While less severe than initially proposed, they still decrease hours and substantially increase wait times for many buses. Nearly every route was hit in some way.
Even worse, the Detroit City Council just passed a budget that cuts another $7.8 million from the DDOT budget! Saying everything had to be cut, many agencies lost 2-3%, while DDOT lost 15%!! Over the past six years, over half of DDOT bus service has been eliminated!
DDOT warned that there will likely be even more cuts in bus service once the budget is finalized. We’re left to wonder what will remain!?!
