Detroit budget cuts would shut down People Mover and put Woodward Light Rail at risk!

What are they thinking!?!  Unless they change course soon,

City Council’s budget will eliminate the Detroit People Mover!

City Council’s budget will gut the little remaining DDOT bus service.

And City Council’s budget risks killing the Woodward Light Rail project!

To get much needed f
ederal funding to build Woodward Light Rail, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requires that the city demonstrate its ability to fund both light rail and all existing transit service for the next 20 years.  The FTA is very clear

"The FTA evaluates the project justification and the local financial commitment according to . . . the ability of the sponsoring agency to fund operations and maintenance of the entire transit system (including existing service) as planned, once the project is built."

If Detroit City Council sticks to its current budget, eliminating $7.8 million from DDOT and $4.4 million from the Detroit People Mover, the FTA will take the $300 million needed for Woodward Light Rail and give it to some other city that is serious about transit!

SAVE DETROIT TRANSIT!!

Call Council President Pugh and other Detroit City Councilors today.
Tell them to save the People Mover and save Woodward Light Rail:
NO BUDGET CUTS TO TRANSIT!!
