Details:
The Detroit City Council is considering a new bus fare policy that includes many changes. The only currently-scheduled hearing is tomorrow (and city workers are on furlough today).
They are proposing to increase the cost of regional bus passes from $49.50 to $69.50 without any expansions of or improvements in service. They are also proposing changes to the definition of disability, "premium service", usage of transfers, and more. Yet they think one hearing in the middle of the day with almost no notice is sufficient public notice and involvement. We think not.
Before they further burdening riders, DDOT must fix its internal problems first, including frequent skipped routes, inefficient mechanics, disappearing farebox money, and lax oversight.
Please speak out and help spread the word!!
