MDOT meeting on I-375

MDOT hosting community meeting Nov. 13 on next steps with the I-375 project

DETROIT, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will host its twelfth community meeting for the I-375 Reconnecting Communities Project on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Eastern, 3434 Russell St., Detroit. Attendees will have an opportunity to engage directly with the project team to learn about the project pause, review proposed design revisions, and hear updates on upcoming utility upgrade construction activities. 

Due to rising costs, longevity of the final project and roadway, and public concern over design elements, MDOT will delay the start of construction to continue reviewing design alternatives, ensuring the final project meets the needs of the public and key stakeholders.

Project background:Through the I-375 project, MDOT is proposing to convert the existing freeway into a street-levelboulevard with signalized intersections from Macomb to Franklin streets and develop morestreet-level connections from neighborhoods into Greektown and downtown. The proposedproject features numerous community enhancements, including upgrading mobility and access,improving environmental quality for neighborhoods and taking an equitable approach tohonoring the history of the former Black Bottom and Paradise Valley neighborhoods. 

Public comment:MDOT continues to seek public participation and welcomes input. Comments can be submittedvia email, by phone at 855-375-MDOT (6368), on the project website and in person at thecommunity meeting.
