Great Trans4M Transit Day at the Capitol

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to our big Trans4M Transit Day at the Capitol!  It was a great success! 

 

Sixty advocates from all across Michigan met up in Lansing and visited with nearly every legislator to tell them how important the Regional Transit Authority is.  Here is our RTA statement, which we shared with legislators.  While the legislators had numerous questions and concerns – about the Board structure, the unanimous vote requirement for rail service, and the cost – most were either supportive or undecided.  While we’ve still got a lot of advocacy to do, the bills have a real chance of becoming law!

I’m especially thankful for our partners from Traverse City, Grand Rapids, and elsewhere in the state who joined our efforts!!  Here’s a great quote from our partners: 

"Why should we in west Michigan care? The reality is that we are one Michigan and the stronger metro Detroit is the stronger we will all be.

 

The political bottom line is that every legislator will vote on the issue and . . . will all need to support the RTA when it comes time for the vote."
