Rail Funding Victory
This past week the Michigan Senate took key steps to receive $131 million pledged to Michigan by the US Department of Transportation. But we can only get that money if the state provides a 20% match. The full Michigan Senate voted to provide that match money: 30 yes, 6 no, and 2 absent. The Governor’s Office lined up former Congressman Joe Schwartz to testify in support.
The House Appropriations Committee meets this coming week and will take up SB 237. The word on the street is that the fight will be tougher in the House. Make sure your state rep knows you want funding for improved trains in Michigan!
