Progress continues on the region’s various rapid transit projects. New news includes:
- Ann Arbor’s bus agency, AATA, has agreed to be the operating authority for the Wally (Washtenaw-Livingston) commuter train project.
- SEMCOG has decided on a location for the Metro Airport stop on the Detroit-Airport-Ann Arbor commuter train; it will be at the corner of Michigan Ave and Henry Ruff. Wayne County already owns a 55-car parking lot that can be used for this service.
- SEMCOG has committed to the date October 25, 2010, as the start date for the Detroit-Airport-Ann Arbor commuter train. However they are now talking about running just four trains each way each day when it begins, with hopes to increase service later.
- The Michigan House of Representatives has approved legislation supporting the creation of private-public street railway company in Detroit. The Senate will be considering it next week.
These updates are available along with summaries of each of the four major rapid transit projects on our What’s Going On: Rapid Transit in Greater Detroit webpage. Check it out!
The three Detroit area projects all fit well into the RTCC proposed regional transit plan, which will be voted on December 8. Stay tuned!
