Meet Our Staff: SaMyia Carrol!

Last month, TRU gained a new staff member! SaMyia joins our team as a Michigan Mobility Fellow through CEDAM. Here’s some background on her!

Background on SaMyia

SaMiya Carroll is a recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis’ master’s of public health program with a concentration in urban design. Originally from Gary, Indiana, she has a multidisciplinary background in work on the built environment, sustainability, and community development. With internships at organizations such as the Kresge Foundation and InvestSTL in St. Louis, she’s gained valuable experience in grant allocations and working with nonprofits.

As an environmental justice advocate, she’s a member of Black Girl Environmentalist (BGE), where she’s had the opportunity to lobby for environmental policies and find community in the BGE Detroit branch. In her free time, she enjoys making matchas, painting, gardening, and spending her time with her cat, Earthy.

She wanted to join transportation advocacy because it truly exists at the center of so many of our social justice issues. And one of her favorite bus systems is the MUNI in San Francisco!

SaMyia’s Work at TRU

She will be working on statewide policy, coalition building, and transit data. If you’re part of our statewide network or interested in state-level policy, SaMyia is a great person to talk to! We’re excited to get hard to work with her, and are thankful she has joined our team.
