SMART to raise fares (it's official)

At today’s SMART Board of Directors meeting, the Board voted to raise SMART bus fares for regular riders, starting on December 1. It’s been discussed for many months, but now it’s official. Here’s what they decided:

  • Regular SMART bus fares will rise to $2 per ride.
  • Park & Ride fares will rise to $2.50.
  • SMART 31-day passes for regular riders will increase to $66.
  • Riding with a transfer from DDOT will cost an additional 50-cents.
  • Riding with a regional monthly pass will cost an additional 50-cents per ride, or a regional supplemental pass will be available for $20.

To minimize the negative impact of the increase, fares for seniors, people with disabilities, students, and youth will not be increased.

Remember these changes won’t go into effect until December.

Once implemented, this will raise an additional $3 million a year for SMART, which has significant budget troubles because of falling property tax revenue.
