In a positive step towards improving public transit, Governor Rick Snyder tapped Dennis Schornack to join his administration as a special adviser on regional transit!
According to Gongwer News Service:
"Finding ways of improving and making more efficient transportation in the Detroit area is seen as critical to improving the state’s economy," said Geralyn Lasher, Mr. Snyder’s communications director.
"One thing Mr. Schornack will have to do is get together some recommendations for Mr. Snyder to include in his October special message to the Legislature on infrastructure," she continued. "But he will also work with the different agencies in the region, including the Detroit Department of Transportation and the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation, on issues such as improving the bus systems and looking at rail transportation."
Mr. Schornack had been a special advisor to former Governor John Engler on health care and then on environmental issues. He was also commissioner for both the International Joint Commission (which oversees the U.S. and Canadian jointly controlled Great Lakes) and the International Boundary Commission between the United States and Canada.
