We’ve seen enormous progress in the past few years towards our goal of high quality regional transit. Public and leader opinions have shifted, so almost no one will claim that our region doesn’t need quality transit. Several exciting rapid transit projects are in the works. Even Congress is getting in the game – passing legislation to double Amtrak funding!
So what’s next? Several of the most critical steps are in front of us:
1. Right now, the greater Detroit area is considering an official Regional Transit Plan that could shape our region for decades to come.
Check out the plan and share your feedback with the RTCC, so they can improve it.
Then join TRU and many others in voicing your support for the plan. If your organization, association or business thinks this is the right direction for Detroit, add your name to the list of supporters that TRU is gathering.
2. We can only improve transit if we have sufficient funding for it. Michigan is considering increased transportation funding over the next few weeks and months. TRU partnered with groups across the state to create a vision for what Michigan’s transit system should be.
Check out the vision summary and/or the full vision report. Again, if your organization, association or business thinks this is the right vision for Michigan, add your name to the list of supporters that TRU is gathering.
3. Over the next year, we will have the opportunity to address other critical steps, including an official regional transit authority and dedicated local funding. Stay tuned!!
We have a vital opportunity right now to address two of the most critical steps towards quality regional transit. Help out by building our list of supporters. Thanks!
