Transit Activists at the State Capitol!

I was thrilled to be joined yesterday at the State Capitol by forty transit supporters from all across the state.  Big thanks to our friends at the Sierra Club, MOSES, Michigan Suburbs Alliance, Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living, and other Trans4M partners!!

We kicked off the day with a song on the steps of the State Capitol building, adapted by MSA’s Joel Batterman:

If you want transit, pass me
No matter where you are
No matter how far
Just pass RTA – get it done in a hurry
Come on now and scurry

‘Cause baby,
There ain’t no mountain high enough
Ain’t no Senate slow enough
Ain’t no House lame-duck enough
To keep us from an RTA, babe

Then we visited just about every one of the 110 State Representative offices to make sure they are aware of the RTA, know why it is so important, and get their questions answered and concerns addressed.  The response was pretty positive, with many offices thanking us for the information and noting that it is really helpful to put some faces to the legislation they’re considering!

We also showed our support at the House Transportation Committee hearing on the RTA.  This was the second House hearing, which again showed strong and diverse support.  Check out this great video summarizing some of the top testimony at last month’s hearing

Thanks again for everyone who joined us this great day!

Everyone else can help too!  Use our easy online action tool to
