Yesterday, on the very last day of the fiscal year, the Detroit City Council voted to restore critical funding to DDOT and the People Mover, along with parks, public safety and more. While Council members are still concerned that the Mayor’s revenue projections are overly optimistic and while Detroit still has major deficit problems, 7 of the 9 Council members voted to restore $25 million in funding, including $7.4 million for DDOT and $4.4 million for the People Mover.
Please thank these Council members for voting to fund Detroit transit:
Charles Pugh at (313) 224-4510
Saunteel Jenkins at (313) 224-4248
Brenda Jones at (313) 224-1245
Andre Spivey at (313) 224-4841
James Tate at (313) 224-1027
Kwame Kenyatta at (313) 224-1198
Joann Watson at (313) 224-4535
While a massive crisis was averted, DDOT still have major problems that must be addressed. Last month fully 10% of the scheduled buses did not operate due to staffing and management problems. On-time performance continues to be horrendous and DDOT management doesn’t seem to care.
Please call to Mayor Bing at (313) 224-3400 end_of_the_skype_highlighting
– Thank him for his work to ensure DDOT service was not gutted.
– Remind him that transit is vital and must be maintained.
– Urge him to use his leadership to solve the management and staffing problems and get DDOT service right!
Thanks!!
