In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s election season. Everywhere you turn there are candidates for local, county, state, and federal office asking for your vote. What a great opportunity!!!
Now more than ever, candidates for public office are listening to you. So ask them what they commit to do to really improve public transit!!
If you want better public transit, one of the most important things you can do this year is to ask questions about transit to candidates.
Who should you ask questions to? Candidates for any public office, including candidates for city council, county commission, county executive, state legislature, and congress!
Where can you ask questions? At candidate forums, debates, town hall meetings, on campaign websites, at coffee hours, parades, and any other opportunity to talk with candidates for public office.
What questions can you ask? Ask about whatever aspect of transit you care about most, whether that is getting better bus service, funding for rapid transit, federal funding for high speed rail, or anything else. Sample questions available.
Just don’t let them get away with vague platitudes of support. Ask for specifics!
And if you have a chance, make sure to tell the candidate why transit matters to you, especially if you ride the bus.
Your question to today’s candidate may help convince tomorrow’s decision-maker!! So thanks for your help!
