It’s that time of the year.
When we give thanks for the people and places we love, look back on the struggles and progress of the past year, start planning, hoping, and working to make next year even better, and when we each decide where we’re going to contribute to make our community and our world a better place.

We’re proud to be celebrating 25 years of educating, advocating, organizing, and mobilizing the metro Detroit community. Over that time, we’ve brought together a powerful team of transit leaders who together have blocked wasteful highway expansions, defended vital bus services, built broad community support for transit, enabled expansion of transit throughout all of Oakland County, and supported new transit services like DAX and D2A2.
In the past year alone, TRU and the transit community have achieved great successes:
- Persuaded Mayor Duggan and the Detroit City Council to invest an additional $23 million in DDOT!
- Successfully pushed to dramatically boost pay for DDOT drivers and mechanics!
- Convinced state leaders to invest a record $100 million a year into transformational transit projects!
- Brought every Detroit mayoral candidate on bus rides and elevated transit as a top campaign issue!
- And brought dozens of groups together around a shared vision of clean, affordable mobility for all!
With your support, next year will be even greater!
- With TRU Director Megan Owens on the Transition Team, we’ll work with Mayor-Elect Sheffield to accelerate DDOT Reimagined to boost bus reliability and frequency!
- With transit finally on the countywide ballot, we’ll make a persuasive case so voters expand transit throughout all of Wayne County, eliminating opt-out no-go zones and ensuring transit for every community.
- With $100 million Michigan has committed to invest in transformational transit, we’ll push for a new Detroit-Lansing-Grand Rapids express transit route finally connecting Michigan’s biggest cities and Capitol conveniently and reliably.
- With major gubernatorial, senate, and legislative races on the ballot, we’ll elevate transit and clean mobility as critical campaign issues, enabling transformational improvements in the coming years.
- And with transit needs in every community throughout Michigan, we’ll launch a new statewide coalition fighting for reliable transit, equitable EVs, safe streets, and smart transportation investments statewide.
