Celebrate recent transit wins with TRU!

Group gathered in a bar chatting and having a good time

2025 has been a year of big wins for transit!

Recent statewide Wins:

The recent state budget includes over $65M a year for transformational transit projects, and increases of Local Bus Operating (LBO) funds to record highs! Thanks to our partners across the state, allies in the government, and persistent advocacy across the past year!

Big Local Wins:

Thanks to the work of the ATU and our Double DDOT coalition, we saw a major DDOT driver pay increase to starting at $25 an hour, including a cost competitive starting wage with SMART!

Also, TRU director Megan was appointed as a transit committee co-chair to Mary Sheffield’s transition team, with SMART general manager Tiffany Gunter and Dessa Cosma, director of Detroit Disability Power. This came after transit being a major issue in the City elections this year too!

Earlier in the year, DDOT also had a budget increase of $22.6M, the largest out of any Detroit department!

While not a complete win, the Tunnel Bus has also come back as a private bus service. We fought with our allies in Windsor to keep it municipally owned, but at least riders aren’t left stranded.

Celebrate these wins with TRU!

The transit, disability, labor, and climate communities, legislative leaders, and local leaders have all worked hard for years to make this happen – so let’s get together to celebrate this big win!

Join TRU, Michigan Climate Action Network, and other allies and champions at The Social Brews in downtown Detroit to celebrate. Food, drinks, and music will be provided. Add it to your calendar!
