Seeking Community Outreach and Social Media Interns/Volunteers

TRU is seeking help for our big summer outreach campaign: #TransitMatters!

As in previous summers, TRU staff, interns, and volunteers will be traversing the region to talk transit. We have posted two position descriptions for student interns and/or dedicated volunteers. We are seeking up to 4 Community Engagement Intern/Volunteers and one Social Media Intern/Volunteer.

These are great opportunities to build skills, add substantive experience to your resume, and get actively involved in improving public transit for southeast Michigan.

Resumes received by April 13 will receive priority consideration.

The Regional Transit Authority at 2 Years Old

It was 2 years ago that TRU, MOSES and other partners welcomed the first meeting of the RTA Board of Directors with a birthday card, balloons, cake, and high expectations. It’s taken a while, but the RTA is now starting to really take off:
– The RTA is now fully staffed with a new Outreach Manager and Planning Director.
– The RTA staff is attending numerous community events throughout the region to learn what the public wants.
– Starting mid-May, the RTA will be launching a major public outreach and engagement effort.
– The Providers and Citizens Advisory Committees have been hard at work.
– And RTA staff is working to provide on-the-ground transit improvements within the next year.

Stay tuned for LOTS more information.

Demanding Solutions for ALL the James Robertsons

Thanks so much to the 1,400 people who signed our petition demanding real transit solutions to ALL the James Robertsons in our community!

It is outrageous that this man had to walk 21 miles every day just to get to work and home. Our region’s transit system failed him and fail thousands of others like him every day.

Over the next few weeks, we will be delivering these 1,400 petition signatures to the leaders of SMART, DDOT, the RTA, and Rochester Hills and reporting back to you and all the signers their commitments to improve transit service.

Stay tuned!!
