M-1 Rail’s QLINE Opening May 12, Seeking Volunteers

Detroit’s first streetcar in 60 years will begin passenger operations on Friday, May 12, 2017, starting with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony that morning. The QLINE will open to the public May 12 at 6pm and celebration activities will take place along the corridor throughout the weekend.

M-1 Rail is seeking Grand Opening Volunteers to help as ambassadors, hospitality hosts, information station captains and kid zone volunteers. QLINE All-Star must be at least 16 years of age and able to sit or stand for long periods of time. More information and sign up at M-1 RAIL website or 313-483-1336. Regardless of RTA Leadership Change, Transit Still Matters

The RTA has removed Michael Ford as CEO and selected Deputy CEO Tiffany Gunter to serve as Interim CEO effective immediately.

Regardless of leadership, the RTA mission and our region’s transit needs remain unchanged.

In April the RTA will discuss key questions about the Regional Transit Plan modifications and when voters will have another chance to fund transit improvements. Some want to wait three years or more before seeking funding to improve transit, regardless of the enormous needs.

Tell the RTA and County leaders that #TransitStillMatters. Urge them to move quickly to fund transit improvements!

On May 11, 2017, TRU will present our Regional Transit Awards, recognizing the important work individuals and groups are doing to improve transit throughout greater Detroit.

Who do you think should be recognized?

Potential award categories include, Transit Employee of the Year, Corporate Transit Champion Award, Exemplary Innovation Award, Under 30 – Breakthrough Transit Champion, Unsung Hero, and Forward Motion Award for Most Effective Public Servant.
