Announcing the 2018 Regional Transit Awardees

TRU is honored to recognize four outstanding people and projects that have done exemplary work to advance and improve transit in the greater Detroit area.

Each year, TRU spotlights several extraordinary people and projects that have made great progress towards improving public transit throughout greater Detroit. This year we are proud to recognize the following transit champions:

  • SMART’s new FAST service will receive the 2018 Exemplary Innovation Award in recognition of substantial improvements in the frequency of cross-county express service on the region’s busiest corridors

 

  • Dearborn Economic Development Director Barry Murray will receive the 2018 Forward Motion Award for Most Effective Public Servant in recognition of his years of dedicated work to develop the John D Dingell Transit Center and to otherwise enhance transit and mobility in Dearborn and throughout the region

 

  • M-1 Rail VP of External Affairs Sommer Woods will receive the 2018 Transit Employee of the Year Award in recognition of her years of dedicated work to expand public engagement in transit planning, to incorporate Detroiters into the transit workforce, and to make the M-1 Rail QLINE the best service it can be.

 

  • David Gifford will receive the 2018 Transit Activist of the Year Award in recognition of his self-driven efforts to promote public transit and his creativity and dedication to increase awareness and ridership of the RefleX service through social media promotion.

These Awards will be presented January 31 at The State of the Region’s Transit
