Champion Change In Your Community Now!!
You’re Invited to apply to join TRU’s Transportation Civic Academy!
UPDATE – APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED!
Transportation systems shape the way we go about our daily lives, and even the future of our planet, but the way these systems are shaped is often a mystery to many decision-makers and the general public.
This fall, TRU’s no-cost Transportation Civic Academy (apply here!) will take participants on a deep dive into transportation planning, politics, and policy. How did metropolitan Detroit’s current transportation paradigm come to be? How might we transform it by providing better alternatives to the automobile?
We’ll have a range of expert presenters, from local planners to nationally known advocates. Topics will range from principles of Complete Streets to bus network design to how to halt a highway widening.
The Academy will consist of ten weekly sessions, some in person and some virtual, on Tuesdays from 4-6 pm, from September to November 2024. There is no cost to attend! Participants will be expected to attend the sessions, complete a small group project outlining an idea for improving transportation in their community, and have fun learning about this important topic.
You can apply for the Academy at this link. There’s a Q & A below, and if you have further questions, you can e-mail Joel, TRU Engagement Manager, at joel@detroittransit.org.
