What are community walk audits?

Walk audits are an activity where you observe and evaluate the condition of your community based on agreed upon standards. Our community walk audit will focus on sidewalks, bike lanes, bus stops, crosswalks, and more! Get up and get out into your community to help influence local infrastructure investments!

What’s the point of a community audit?

The TRU DGC Community Walk Audit is special because it’s a part of a midwest-wide neighborhood audit! As partners with RE-AMP, the data we collect will be compiled into a nationwide report that will be shared with local and federal representatives and legislators, to better inform our officials on the conditions of our communities!

What does an audit consist of?

The walk audits will take approximately an hour. There will be 15 minutes to discuss the audit procedures, and any questions/concerns you may have before the audit and 15 minutes to discuss observations and complete audit forms after. The walking part of the audit will take approximately 30 minutes. All materials will be provided, just bring yourself, some water and anything else you think you may need to walk comfortably. Refreshments will be provided.

Who should sign up?

Community leaders, community residents, advocates for justice, transit enthusiasts, educators, and anyone else interested that is 12 years old and above (all minors must be accompanied by an adult)

Where will the audits be?

There will be 3 audits in total. We chose sites that will receive Safe Streets for All funding and cover different areas of Detroit.  This federal funding was awarded to Detroit to make safety improvements to its more dangerous roads for all users. These roads have much higher crash rates than others, so improving them will make the biggest difference in reducing road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities. These walk audits will help collect community feedback and shape the road designs.
