Gov. Whitmer’s team is writing Michigan’s Healthy Climate Plan and wants to know what you think!
RSVP for either of this week’s Listening Sessions to share your ideas, suggestions, priorities, and concerns:
Both are hosted by the Climate Office of the Michigan Department of Energy, Great Lakes, and the Environment. With help from the Michigan Council on Climate Solutions, EGLE is developing the MI Healthy Climate Plan, Michigan’s response to the climate crisis.
Our state and our globe have a critically important choice before us:
Specifically, EGLE staff are mapping out how the state will cut climate pollution by 28% by 2025 and become carbon neutral by 2050. It’s a big job but totally achievable and it could be great for Michigan communities IF they adopt and invest in the right solutions.
These Listening Sessions will be just that – a chance for EGLE staff to hear what you and other Michiganders think about the draft recommendations. You’ll have a chance to speak for a minute or two to share your thoughts and suggestions. (They will NOT be answering questions at this time.)
Our friends at the Michigan Environmental Council wrote up a nice summary of some of the best recommendations from the Climate Council so far. Take a minute to prep by looking through those and voicing your support for them at the Listening Session! You can also learn more about the Climate Crisis through our friends at the Michigan Climate Action Network and through TRU’s Green Rides, Blue Skies campaign.
Tell them to make the Plan bold and equitable – and to expand public transit!!
Some suggested comments from TRU:
– The Climate Plan should be bold and aggressive – our planet and state need it!
– The Plan should improve equity by greatly expanding public transportation!
– The Plan needs to make it easy for people to go green by making streets safer for walking, biking, and otherwise getting around without a car!
If you can’t attend, you can also send a comment to EGLE-ClimateSolutions@Michigan.gov or through our easy pre-drafted letter tool:
Thanks!!
