Construction is currently underway for Michigan’s first streetcar in sixty years!
The M-1 Rail streetcar project, once completed in 2016, will provide modern electric streetcar service every 8-12 minutes between downtown Detroit and the New Center area.
While construction creates a bit of a headache, the M-1 Rail team is doing everything they can do speed construction and minimize disruptions.

Voters provided a huge win for the SMART millage! The SMART millage increase passed with very strong support:
– Oakland – 73.6% support
– Wayne – 63.1% support
– Macomb – 59.6% support

The M-1 Rail team announced that with the unanimous City Council approval of their operating contract, they will officially begin construction of the new streetcar line July 28!
