Testimony Before Detroit City Council

TRU’s Assistant Director Ruth Johnson presented an update on Detroit transit before the Detroit City Council. We presented an honest evaluation of DDOT progress under Mayor Duggan and Director Dan Dirks, rating their results to date a “C-.”

On the plus side, the mayor has made transit a priority and Dan Dirks is working hard to undo decades of underfunding and mismanagement. Yet riders are not yet feeling on-the-ground improvement.

Mayor Duggan and DDOT Director Dirks held a press conference Thursday to announce the arrival of new DDOT buses and a new mobile “DDOT bus” ap.

They showed off the first of 80 new buses scheduled to be delivered this year; the first seven of which will hit the streets in the next two weeks.

They also unveiled a new “DDOT Bus App” mobile app which provides riders who have smart phones the real-time location, movement and arrival time of the next bus at their stop.

Donate Today to Support Detroit Transit in 2015

Please make a year-end donation to TRU to support our work for reliable, affordable transit for everyone in 2015!

Because you understand that not everyone can drive, and not everyone wants to;

Because you believe every person deserves the chance to get ahead by having a way to get around;

Because you’ve ridden transit in other big cities, enjoyed the vibrant urban neighborhoods around transit stops, and dream of Detroit enjoying the same.

TRU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your donation is tax deductible. Please donate today!
